Vernon God Little

a 21st Century Comedy in the Presence of Death

I loved this book! It does play into our current fascination with school shootings and mass killings, but what I really appreciated was the subtle growth and maturing process of the narrator. At the novel's beginning, he is crass, self-centred and judgemental, an average unhappy teenager with below average status. The persecution he endures throughout the book somehow brings him out of himself and draws him toward compassion and gentleness. Really well written and compelling.
