I have read this story many times through and loved it. Its the story of an orphan girl named Lucy who is mute due to traumatic and cruel care at the orphanage where she has lived the last five years. She and her friends run away and join the circus, and Lucy finds her calling working with the elephants as she hopes to find her sister dilly. Through the story is touching, it’s not stellar and contains smoking. However, it should make a pleasant afternoon read and is highly enjoyable. Based in real events, I would recommend this to anyone who asked. -3 to 3, I’d give it a 2.5.

I enjoyed the story itself but I wasn't impressed by the writing. However, reading about Lucy's stutter (and the true facts around similar incidents from history) was both heartbreaking and informative.
