A hilarious tale of a bear who is so absorbed in his giant pail of berries that he forgets to share them with all his friends and can't even focus enough to listen to the words of the wise oak tree. Told through a repetition of bear mishearing the old oak, bear continues to do stranger and stranger things that rhyme with the word "share." While this repetition does go on a little too long, kids will still have a ball with this silly story, especially if you put some gusto behind "the deep, low voice" of the old oak tree.

Share, Big Bear, Share! by Maureen Wright, is a simple story about sharing with friends. Big Bear has a huge bucket of berries, and his forest friends would love to share in his bounty. Unfortunately, Bear is oblivious to the desire apparent upon the sweet, earnest faces of the other woodland critters. Repeated reminders to share go unheeded as Bear doesn’t “pay attention like a good bear should”. Young listeners will enjoy the comedic misunderstandings that arise from Bear’s poor listening skills. The repetitive refrain, “Share, Big Bear, Share”, invites preschoolers to actively participate and co-narrate the story at appropriate intervals. Textured, mixed-media illustrations highlight this seasonally appropriate picture book about overcoming greed. The inclusion of layered details invites subsequent readings. Pair this tale of sharing with Bear & Hare—Share! by Emily Gravett for a solid introduction to this topic.

Great for rhyming, phonological awareness, and vocabulary. This one is bound to get some giggles from preschoolers. Cartoony and fun.
