"I can't wait to cook my way through this amazing new book," Ina Garten writes in the foreword to this cookbook of more than 400 recipes and variations from Julia Turshen, writer, go-to recipe developer, co-author for best-selling cookbooks such as Gwyneth Paltrow's It's All Good, and Dana Cowin's Mastering My Mistakes in the Kitchen, and author of her forthcoming next cookbook Feed the Resistance. The process of truly great home cooking is demystified via more than a hundred lessons called out as "small victories" in the funny, encouraging headnotes; these are lessons learned by Julia through a lifetime of cooking thousands of meals. This beautifully curated, deeply personal collection of what Chef April Bloomfield calls "simple, achievable recipes" emphasizes bold-flavored, honest food for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and dessert. More than 160 mouth-watering photographs from acclaimed photographers Gentl + Hyers provide beautiful instruction and inspiration, and a gingham spine elevates this entertaining and essential kitchen resource into a covetable gift for both beginners and accomplished home cooks.

I had reservations due to the Paltrow connection, but they were needless. The recipes are simple, innovative and delicious. In addition, she will give variations on a recipe, encouraging new cooks to use what they have in the house instead of running out to the store for ingredients that would be infrequently used. I had thought that I would only look up new recipes online from now on; this cookbook has changed my thinking and I will be buying my own copy.

We cooked from this book for our monthly Cookbook Club and it was soooooo delicious! There was a great range of recipes from simple to complex, which gives a lot of needed flexibility for quick weeknight dinners or impressive weekend feasts. Although the theme of "simple victories" was a little over-done, I did like the theme in general - where every recipes teaches you a new skill to use in the kitchen. Cookbooks like this one do more than give you a great new recipe - they make you a better cook. That's a huge win!

This has been my go to cookbook since it was released. The recipes are easy to use and delicious. The author’s lovely personality shines through making the book a delight to cook from.
