This is a sumptuous book. There are 310 color plates of botanical art and the arrangement of the plates is such that you can be looking at an illustration by a German botanical artist from the 17th century and turn the page and find a photograph by a 21st century photographer and then to a beautiful handwritten Arabic herbal illustration. It is such a delight that the arrangement brings so many surprises. Each plate has a short essay about how the illustration fits into the artist's overall body of work.
