It has been call the "Ferguson effect": Since the 2014 police shooting death of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri, officers have been backing off of proactive policing, and criminals are becoming emboldened. Mac Donald deconstructs the central narrative of the Black Lives Matter movement: that racist cops are the greatest threat to young black males. She argues that it is criminals and gangbangers who are responsible for the high black homicide death rate; and that no government agency is more dedicated to the proposition that "black lives matter" than today's data-driven, accountable police department.

Factual book on the war on cops and the war in CA over felons being released upon the public. The prison system in CA spends more on mental health than any other state or the federal prisons. Yet, still the three federal judges refuse to release the state from the expense of over 48 million at the time of the book for a special advisor to over see the CA prison systems mental health system.

People who don't believe there is a war on cops also believe that George Bush masterminded 9/11. The treatment of cops by the media is beyond abhorrent and inexplicable. When epidemic violence, murder and crime is going on in our cities, the media combs through the news each day to find negative stories about police. Shameful. Scary. Traitorous. Read this book and wonder what malicious and evil intent is behind this relentless campaign.

The premise of this book is foolish: there is NO war on cops!!! Police have used very heavy-handed tactics in cities around the world, and citizens are finally taking it upon themselves to demand more honest, professional, thoughtful and controlled interventions by the police.

Mac Donald is addressing an important issue and she has the better part of truth on her side. However, her sources in the book are poorly documented and the book could be better organized. Moreover, her case is not well-served by her polemical edge. Those who are attempting to refute received wisdom are seldom well-served by a polemical approach.
