Portraits of Individual Lives

In One Wild Bird at a Time, Heinrich shares his great love: close, day-to-day observations of individual wild birds. There are countless books on bird behavior, but Heinrich argues that some of the most amazing bird behaviors fall below the radar of what most birds do in aggregate. Heinrich's passionate observations superbly mix memoir and science and lead to fascinating questions - and sometimes startling discoveries.

An inspiring little read about the lives of the different birds that Heinrich encountered and studied in his 'backyard' forest. I pretty much just read about a bird per month for the last year and the author's fascination and dedication was infectious.

The author hints he has a new mate so you wonder what he learned about being a good mate from watching strategies of the various birds?

The author shows how easy it is to do science. Inspiring, insightful.
