Childhood favourite that any adult craving autumnal whimsy can appreciate. Great choice for any child who wants to learn a bit about Hallowe'en and it's history.

The perfect Halloween book for both adults and children. Ray Bradbury takes the reader on a magical journey through the history of Halloween, beginning in ancient Egypt and ending in contemporary Mexico.

This was an interesting read. I'm a huge fan of Gris Grimly, the illustrator, however the story was a little all over the place though. I did enjoy it, it started off pretty cool, however the time traveling into alternate dimensions was a little hokey at times. I wish it had more to do with Halloween (apparently it was supposed to reflect the origins of the holiday, sort of missed that I guess). Overall though, a good read.

This is the first Ray Bradbury piece I have read and it will be my last. I really wanted to love this book but, I feel his strange for the sake of strange writing style got in the way of telling what might have been a more captivating story if it had been written, well, by someone else. This awkward style left me completely uninterested in and unattached to the characters. The descriptions—often silly with gibberish-like words simply strung together—stopped me from trying or caring to fully imagine what he was attempting to describe and left me in eye rolling anticipation and hope for the end of the story to arrive. If based solely on the clever integration of historical concepts and content independent of the writing style then I would give a 4 star rating. But, the book as a whole, I can only give 2.

One of my favourites to re-read every Halloween.
