"For Will Innis and his daughter, Devlin, the loss was catastrophic. Every day for the past five years, they wonder where she is, if she is-Will's wife, Devlin's mother-because Rachael Innis vanished one night during an electrical storm on a lonely desert highway, and suspected of her death, Will took his daughter and fled. Now, Will and Devlin live under different names in another town, having carved out a new life for themselves as they struggle to maintain some semblance of a family. When one night, a beautiful, hard-edged FBI agent appears on their doorstep, they fear the worst, but she hasn't come to arrest Will. "I know you're innocent," she tells him, "because Rachael wasn't the first. . .or the last." Desperate for answers, Will and Devlin embark on a terrifying journey that spans four thousand miles from the desert southwest to the wilds of Alaska, heading unaware into the heart of a nightmare, because the truth is infinitely worse than they ever imagined."-- Provided by publisher.

Positives: Zero-friction read. Very approachable for all skill levels. Not overwhelming.

Negatives: Bite-sized chapters left a lot of white space on the page tricking you into thinking the book is longer than it is. 9th grade reading level required.

I loved this book. Fast paced. Kept me turning page.

I don't think the author has ever experienced real snow or has a clue about the logistics of getting supplies to the location where the later action takes place. Interesting concept, poorly executed, completely implausible.

I loved Crouch's novel Abandon, so I had high hopes for this one. It is not really a horror story, more like a revenge story. I did enjoy it, it has an interesting plot. I just wasn't blown away. It felt a little predictable at times.

Absolutely amazing read...one of those books you just want to cozy up to the fireplace with...and you can't put it down...numerous twists and turns...very suspenseful!
