For fans that want to get into the comics, this would be the greatest place to start at. Like the first episode, it explains the situation Rick Grimes is in during the zombie apocalypse. He was shot and went into a coma, then wakes up in an abandoned hospital. He searches for his family only to find his home to be empty and a father and son living next door. The father (Morgan) explains the nature of the situation to Rick. The government had told people to relocate to major cities for their protection. Rick assumes that his wife and son had went to Atlanta because his wife’s family lives there. He then goes to Atlanta to only find the city riddled with zombies, but ends up at a camp where his wife, son, and best friend are. What is so good about this story is that the conflicts are all man verses man, instead of the obvious man verses zombie. The comics are amazing; no character is safe, not even Rick. What differs with the show is that the comics are more mature and gruesome. Fans of the AMC show will love the comics just as much as they love the series.

Loved it!! I like how the show actually follows the graphic novel, just missing a few characters! Can't wait to read more!

The show was based on this graphic novel. Not the other way around

Excellent graphic novel. The dialogue and action flow very well together. Love the similarities and the differences between this and the tv show. I would recommend this for ages 14+ due to language and mature themes (the writers REALLY like the F-word!)

The Walking Dead – Vol. 1, Days Gone Bye - I love the television drama series ‘The Walking Dead;’ need I say more? I have already read volume two through eighteen; it took me five months to get book one due to demand for this book in particular? I really enjoyed these graphic novels but I am disappointed that they are in black and white only. Due to some of the content, I recommend them for teens 16 years of age and older. Doctor-at-Bass! T. Best ongoing zombie story I've ever read/watched. Intense plots mixed with believable characters and well written dialogue make for a great read. The art is also noteworthy, adding to the dark theme of these graphic novels.
Highly recommend.
