Liar and Spy is an interesting book that really shows perspective from Georges and the blue club to Safer and the spy club in his building. I would give this book a 3.3 out of 5. A few of my favourite parts where when we discover the meaning of Candy's and Safer's name, or when Georges discovers the truth about the mysterious Mr.X.

Very creative. I loved the names. I really enjoyed the first half & not so much the second half. I wanted more of the intrigue.

Such a good book. Could not put it down. I really liked how Safer had such a complicated but cool family, like how their parents did not name them at birth.

I think that somebody faking making you assist him in entering a house isn't really a game... But it was a really good book.

First American winner of the Guardian Children's Fiction Prize. Chair of judges Julia Eccleshare called the novel "an incredibly sensitive book. Its central characters are all children who have complexities in their lives which they are dealing with. It's a novel about how children have to navigate the world, and it has an open-handedness which means that readers may be surprised as to where it finishes."

Liar and Spy is about a 7-th grader named Georges who is chosen by Safer, the leader of the Spy Club, to spy on the mysterious Mr. X in the apartment above Georges's right after he moves in, as well as emotional struggles after Georges' mother catches a dangerous virus.

ELIZABETH RAMSEY BIRD Aug 29, 2012

Don't call him Gorgeous. Georges has had to live with his uniquely spelled name all his life (gee THANKS, namesake Georges Seurat) and it's never been anything but a pain. You know what else is a pain? Moving from your awesome home where you had a loft made out of a real fire escape to an apartment with an unemployed dad and an absentee albeit loving mom. When Georges meets the similarly oddly named kid Safer in the new apartment building he becomes enmeshed in the boy's spy club. Is there someone up to no good in the complex? How far will the boys go to learn the truth? As things escalate and George finds himself facing fears he didn't even know he could have, he discovers that everything in his life boils down to this question: when it comes to his relationship with Safer, who really is the liar and who really is the spy?
