The bestselling author and popular "New York Times" columnist gives an innovative and easy diet plan, complete with recipes. By eating vegan every day before 6: 00 pm, readers can lose weight and dramatically improve their health.
Six years ago, overweight and pre-diabetic, the author faced a directive: adopt a vegan diet or go on medication. He was no fan of a lifelong regimen of pills; his solution was the VB6 diet. Using scientific evidence to support his plan, the author, a food writer for the New York Times gives us his innovative and easy diet plan, complete with recipes. He maintains that by eating vegan every day before 6:00 p.m., you can lose weight and dramatically improve your health. Every day we learn new benefits of the vegan diet, and discover how cutting meat and animal products out can still mean a world of delicious meals. Now the author brings his expertise to vegan cooking, giving you an easy-to-follow diet plan plus 50 simple everyday recipes, exclusively vegan meals for breakfast and lunch, and as flexible as you need to be for dinner. Building on his previous book Food Matters, the author outlines in six principles the reasons that a partially vegan diet can dramatically improve your health. He lost 35 pounds and saw all his blood numbers move in the right direction. When you eat lots of fruits and veggies while cutting back on meat and dairy, and cook as much as possible at home, you automatically find yourself eating more sensible portions and almost no junk food. You can live healthier, not just eat healthier, when you eat with eyes wide open. This is the author's flexible way of eating better and losing weight, using common sense in the kitchen.

I have another of his books from a few years ago. I believe the title is How to Cook Everything. Was anticipating the same detail in this VB6 book and must say was not disappointed. It has certainly helped my road to becoming Vegan. His recipes are good and easy to follow. (Please note I am not an able cook but this book assisted.)

As a longtime fan of Mark Bittman I enjoyed this book, but not as much as some of his other work. In this book Bittman outlines his health plan - to lose weight, stay healthy and reduce his chances of heart disease and diabetes he became Vegan Before 6pm. Thus, from breakfast to dinner he would eat vegan and then eat meat, fish or dairy with dinner. As a former vegetarian, and someone who now considers herself to be a "flexitarian" I found this to be an interesting book. However, it is much more of a diet/cook book then it is a philosophical look at meat consumption in Western diets, or a health journalistic look at the issue. But, as is usual for Bittman, the recipes are good. Recommended for those interested in improving their health or looking for healthy and delicious recipes. Also great for those who need ideas about what to cook for vegetarians.
