New York times bestselling author Jodi Picoult's breathtaking second novel is now available on audio for the first time! Jodi Picoult's story of a young woman overcome by the demands of having a family is told "with power and grace." (Library journal). Paige O'Toole has only a few vivid memories of her mother, who left when she was five. Now, having left her father behind in Chicago for dreams of art school and marriage to an ambitious young doctor, she finds herself with a child of her own. But her mother's absence, and shameful memories of her past, make her doubt both her maternal ability and her sense of self-worth.

My first experience with an audiobook. Wasn't my favorite Picoult novel but I did enjoy it. I found the reader to be soothing but had to speed her up due to the length of this book. An hour a day and 2 weeks for a check out wasn't enough, had to renew for another 2 weeks to finish it. Build up was slow and then bam, it was done. Not the Picoult book I would recommend for someone to start with if they've never read/listen to any other books.

Having read numerous novels of Picoult's and enjoy her style of writing. I decided to invest 17 hours 30 minutes in listening to this novel on CD. I give 5 stars to the narrator and storyline but foudn the length of the plot a tad too long. It became drawn out when listening (something that might or might not have happened if I had read it myself). Picoult always delivers thought-provoking storylines and is able to write raw emotion into her books and for those reasons I would suggest readers try her on CD. Summer is a great time to do this and made my 5 hr car ride go by quickly.NF

An ordinary premise - the story of a young woman's life from 18 to her 20's. Yet interesting and compelling. I'm going to read all of Picoult's work after this!

slow-moving, but not awful

This may be the worst book I've ever endured. Implausible plot, shallow selfish characters, endless self-dialogue. I'd love to know what others think if they can stick it out to the end. I would rate it a minus 5 stars if that were possible.
