An American diplomat is forced to confront the devastation of her past when she is assigned to remote northern Afghanistan. She has to deal with war, chauvinistic men, not being taken seriously, losses, and thank goodness some loves. A wonderful aspect of this story is how she remembers, from her Girl Scout days, how to cook with solar-energy ovens and teaches this technology to the Afghanistan people. I thoroughly enjoyed this book.
