New to the subject, I appreciated the introductory narrative, but the author intertwined too much of his own personal life and journey for my taste. It was okay.
Iyer, a well respected journalist and travel writer, takes the reader on a journey to the heart and soul of the meaning of Buddhism in our modern world. Iyer met the Dalai Lama when he was a young boy and has become a long standing friend of the family. He has been engaged in conversation with the Dalai Lama for the last three decades and Iyer's insights are personal and perceptive. Iyer is not a Buddhist but is fascinated with a man he believes is one of this century’s greatest scholar, politician and religious leader.
