Concerns the last twelve hours in the life of Jesus of Nazareth. In the Garden of Gethsemane near the Mount of Olives, Jesus is betrayed by Judas Iscariot. Jesus is condemned to death for blasphemy and brought before Pontius Pilate, the Roman governor of Judea, for sentencing. The roaring crowd demands his death, so Pilate orders his crucifixion. Jesus is severely beaten and made to carry his cross up to Golgotha, the hill outside Jerusalem, where he is nailed to the cross. With his mother looking on, he dies.

This is an extraordinary film. Very graphic with heavy violence. Not for young children. The blue tones are very effective, there is the depiction of Satan, which is resolved, by the way, at the end. The lead, Jim Caviezel, playing Jesus, is so good, as are the supporting cast. Mel Gibson outdid himself with this film.
I guess you have to believe in a man called 'Jesus' in order to get the grasp of this film. I believe that there was a man called Jesus, sent to earth with a specific job in mind. This film captures the pure essence of the times: the man called Jesus, his followers, the outpost called Jerusalem, the people who lived in Jerusalem. I loved the crowd scenes. They are so real. All roads led to Rome, and Jerusalem is referred to in the film as an "outpost", far away from Rome.
I could never watch this film; I took it home a couple of times, but returned it, unwatched. I cried all the way through. It is extremely bloody, and one might find it very difficult to view. It has its' own truth and beauty, and worth the watch.
Thank you Mel Gibson for your courage in presenting this film.

Another fairy tale movie that the brainwashed are all convinced in historically accurate. There is NO hard evidence that jesus was a real person. We all know that the bible was just a book written over an extended period of time by lots of different people and then certain stories were chosen to help "control" the behavior of the uneducated.

A well done Mel Gibson directed movie, all spoken in ancient Hebrew-Latin with English sub-titles. Appearance and symbolism of Satan included in the story. For anyone of faith &/or who may wish to see how the actual legendary story really occurred, 1,984 yrs ago.. VERY GRAPHIC.

Visually gorgeous, the blues behind ember flames look amazing, the set pieces are amazing, and the effects are stunning, both visually and emotionally. There are portions of this film that are hard to stomach, but it is visually captivating and is the best retelling of the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ ever made. Mel Gibson gets a lot of hate, but he is without a doubt one of the best filmmakers in the industry.

If you like blood, you will love this movie. Of course, that could be said about many films directed by Mel Gibson. It is technically well put together, and well-written for what it wants to be, again like most of Gibson's films. Additional points for historical atmosphere, dialogue in Aramaic and Latin, and so on. Just don't go in expecting a lot of deep character interaction, Jesus' message, or anything like that. This is not about Jesus' life, but about death, and nothing but death. Viewers who don't share Gibson's traditional religious beliefs should prepare themselves for some antisemitism.

This was a realistic movie showing how hard it was for Jesus. I loved it, though it was creepy at some parts, which obviously is because it is rated R.

I don't want to use my comment to preach, but I feel like I have to.
To trcookIIImddmd (his/her comment below):
Maybe the Islam religion is as bad as you say it is. But you don't go around saying that they should all die. Everyone deserves a chance with God. God calls every person to repent and believe. It's our choice whether we accept His calling or not.
Catholics are NOT cannibals; Jesus himself told us at the Last Supper that we should consume His Body and Blood in the Eucharist. And John 6:48-51 says:
[Jesus said,] "Yes, I am the bread of life! Your ancestors ate manna in the wilderness, but they all died. Anyone who eats the bread from heaven, however, will never die. I am the living bread that came down from heaven. Anyone who eats this bread will live forever; and this bread, which I will offer so the world may live, is my flesh."
Jesus clearly states that He is the Bread of Life. If you deny it, you are denying the Bible.
The Holy Spirit entered the Virgin Mary so that she could give birth to the Son of God. She never had copulation with any man. God our Father is Jesus's dad, and so the Holy Spirit (who is one with the Father and the Son in the Trinity) conceived Jesus in Mary's womb. Luke 1:35 says:
The angel replied [to Mary], "The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the baby to be born will be holy, and he will be called the Son of God."
There is plenty of evidence to support the Bible. Just read 'The Case For Christ' by Lee Strobel.

This film was gripping and incredibly bloody, but portrayed an accurate picture of Jesus's sacrificial death.

Im not using this comment section to preach I just want to use it to give my review of the movie. I thought it was a great movie, with a great cast, and a great director. Every actor played there part perfectly, especially Jim Caviezel, and Mel Gibson did a great job.

Violence: Highly graphic, it heart-breakingly depicts the extreme depth of what Christ went through when he died on the cross </3

Captain_America Apr 07, 2012

Frightening or Intense Scenes: The scourging is VERY intense. Actually, the whole movie is intense. And when Satan is talking to Jesus, that part is creepy and intense.

nadian Jan 28, 2010

Violence: Obscenely graphic, with many terrifying scenes and images.

It was hard to finish watching, so much cruelty. No one could change Jesus to the bad side no matter had bad they treated him.
