So awful that when it was first shown, the presenter, Alistair Cooke, turned to the camera for his outro, and said only, "THAT...was Poldark."

I liked this DVD. Follows the fortunes of the dashing Ross Poldark in 18th century Cornwall. Includes 16 episodes, filmographies, and historical background on Cornwall.

I was disappointed to find that this dvd release of the early 1975 series has been greatly abridged from its original content. So much has been cut out that it becomes confusing. I had watched this early series a few years ago, more than…

The original 1970's Series 1 is far superior to the present remake of Poldark. The acting, the staging and the characters, particularly a very spunky and '70s free-spirited Demelza, were far better in Series 1. Most importantly, Series 1…

This the original of series one ..the library then buys series two that at the beginning goes over what was in series one of the original ..it is quite inferior to the series with RobinEllis ...which you would stick to one or the other…

📺 Alastair Cooke, the British journalist and first host of Masterpiece Theatre, said he thought this was the worst series they had ever shown, and that was why his only on-air comment after it was over was, "That—was Poldark." Of course,…

I'm watching the current series on DVD, but while I wait for the next season I've come back to the original after 45 years. I'd forgotten how good it was and am enjoying it equally. I am happy that I, for one, am not spoiled by 21st C.…

After watching the newer version first, I found this one to be the same story line, but the cinematography here was very inferior...came across more like a stage play rather than an action film. I recommend the newer version for better…

A richer, racier telling of the Poldark saga - I think that I prefer this to the current version. There is an option for subtitles in the main menu, although I watched 2 dvd's before finding them.

Poldark was a British TV drama that mesmerized viewers in 1975 (with the second series in 1977). It made celebrities out of the actors and turned Robin Ellis who played Poldark into a national sex symbol. As a precursor to Downtown Abby,…

This video shows it's age as the DVD for the U.S. market did not include subtitles. Much harder to watch as I think that although I had well over 30 trips to England, dialects outside London require more concentration on my part. If a…

I had vivid memories of this series, which I saw during the 1970s on PBS so I just viewed it, wishing to see if it held up to my memories. It certainly does. Even with the 1970s production values, the perfect casting and passion far…

Highly addictive (!) period costume melodrama .

This miniseries was engrossing. Ross Poldark is always rushing around being noble and rescuing people and fighting against injustice and bitter rivals. The second series isn't quite as good as the first, but still worth watching. There is…

Smugglers, murder and more. A thoroughly entertaining series, had to watch the whole thing as quickly as possible to see what would happen next.

It is hard to believe that this great series is 35 years old! This series and Upstairs Downstairs made me go to England and Cornwall many years ago. Great story, acting, music, and dialogue. Can't wait till series 2 comes out on dvd. …
