This new series brings contemporary films, including documentaries and narrative movies, each emphasizing the diversity nd expressiveness of Brazilian cinema. In Portuguese with English subtitles, the program begins with a spoken introduction to provide context and enhance the audience's understanding of the film. Following the screening, the curator will moderate a short debate. Whenever possible, the film's director will join the discussion via Zoom. This is a rare opportunity to interact with the creative mind behind the film. Rodrigo Torres, a Brazilian film curator based in the SF Bay Area, curator for this series, holds a Bachelor of Arts in cinema and an MFA in Visual Arts. He began his career in the camera department on movie sets and worked as a curator and film programmer for the State Department of Culture at the renowned Cine Brasília movie theater.
