Through the voices of students, principals, teachers and experts, Not Even In a Wildest Dream reflects on the value of education. The challenges of the present, expectations for the future, and the dreams of those who experience the reality of public high school in Brazil are the focus of this 124-minute documentary.
Through interviews with high school students and teachers from 14 cities across Brazil, the film critically examines the country’s public education system. It highlights the importance of exploring adolescents’ symbolic and imaginative worlds, emphasizing this as a key factor in motivation, self-esteem, and career guidance. The film also invites reflection on traditional teaching models, where knowledge is transmitted unidirectionally from teacher to student—as if students were empty vessels to be filled—without fostering autonomy or critical thinking. While focusing on the Brazilian context, the film sparks a broader conversation about the global significance of education for future generations.
