Description

Chess is a game of sport, art and science. Kids can benefit from Chess significantly for their learning and character development.

This program caters to all skill levels, with activities for everyone (Including free-play, lessons, simuls, and tournaments). We will begin with an introduction for those new to the game.

Palo Alto High School (Paly) Junior and FIDE Master (FM) Austin Mei would like to share his passion in chess, introduce this wonderful game to kids of all ages and help them to improve.

Austin started his chess journey at the age of 10 when he enrolled in an after-school chess class at his elementary school. Ever since Austin has been very passionate about the game and worked hard to become a better player. He achieved USCF National Master title at the age of 15 and FIDE Master title at the age of 16. Austin has won many trophies in the National Scholastic Championships. Currently he is one of the top ranked players in his age group nation wide.

Austin has been an active chess leader and volunteer. He was the president of his middle school chess club, and currently is the president of the Paly Chess Club. Austin is a Club Tournament Director and has volunteered for chess tournaments hosted by the prestigious Mechanic’s Institute. Austin also leads Palo Alto Chess Club which hosts chess lessons, cusual plays and fun activities at local library for the kids in the community.
